In my opinion, of you're going to have two eyes showing with this pup, you have to have both have white eyeballs, black pupils. Currently, the two white dots look very odd, and based on the perspective of the drawing, I can only assume you're attempting to imply one white dot as the pupil of an eye, the other white dot as the nose. The eye that's noticeable (white eyeball, black pupil) is great. Try to mimic that eye with the other eye, and I believe this design will be very successful.
I believe that's a spot JF. Agree about the shadow though- maybe if there aren't harsh points and it feels smoother.. I think a more oval shape would suffice.
