This logo was featured in the annual LogoLounge Trend Report here: http://logolounge.com/designers/?tf%3D/Default.asp?**If any of you guys haven't read it yet, i think you should. Very well-written post by Bill Gardner.
ReplyCongrats on getting new into New Year's Trends on LL, Alex! (It was great to be there for last year)
ReplyI like this.
ReplyWell done on the exposure but is good to be part of a trend? Did you know that when you were designing it?
ReplyI've made mention about the Logolounge trends on this site before, but I really think they need to be taken with a huge grain of salt. For example, on the 2005 report %22Amalgams%22 This group featured Unilever - a design which did spawn countless knock-offs, but it also included the Tennessee Aquarium mark, which is 12 years older (9 years older than the other 2 in the group) - so chronologically, it doesn't fit as part of the trend.**As for being considered as being part of a 'trend' I'm not sure about that either. Are they implying that you follow trends? Or, that you are the groundbreaker for started it off?? I'm not sure...I just don't think there is enough information/evidence provided in their articles on 'why' something is a trend %26 'why' they've selected a particular set of logos to represent that trend.**Just thinking out loud...Nice container shape though Alex :)
ReplyI agree with Hayes Image. There was a forum post as well on this subject. I mean, it's really great that a well-known publication mentions your work in an article, but since the article is called %222011 trends%22, I'm not sure.. I think the worst thing to do as a designer is to follow trends (actually, it comes 2nd after stealing stuff). If, as Hayes put it, these are groundbreaking starters (of that particular trends), well, that's a whole different thing. Hats off. If the article was called %222011 uniques%22, now that's something to brag about all day, lol.**That aside, I think this logo is really nice!
ReplyGood points, if you are the original innovator than well done for sure. I try to pay no attention to trends, If I do something that reflects the business well but looks like one of these trends so be it, it happens, you don't know until these articles are published. I noticed they had a section under reoccurring, how often does a trend have to reoccur before its a mainstay?
ReplyOn the subject of the %22logolounge trend%22 thing... you are aware that your logo is in the %22gradient%22 section... it was selected as part of a %22trend%22 because of its use of gradient... that's not a knock on what you have designed, I like its simplicity %26 boldness... but... just because of a use of gradient?... I personally wouldn't get too excited about that :)
ReplyBut, trends in design are existing and these are representative designers for each style/trend on LogoLounge. Imho.
ReplyThanks for the comments here guys, I haven't been around here for a looong while, so great to see there is still some activity around here. It is a GREAT place for logodesigners and your above comments are proof of that. Very well thought out. I AM really happy to be in the trend report, it is nice to get noticed, and the post is distributed widely. But i also agree that being included in the post is NO proof of talent and following trends is to me the exact opposite. In real life, dealing with clients, i find that following trends is almost impossible, as every calls for a different %22style%22 , and NOT a style you just lift up the drawer... **The Unilever logo really sparked a trend, but as for gradiens, thousands of designers has used them for years, and i don't even consider it as a trend... While the LL post is very informative, well-written and entertaining, i agree you shouldn't take it too serious :)
Replygreat simplicity !
